Maintenance

Maintenance

Sunday 8th November 2015

The wedding season is now over and the cars will have a well-earned rest over the winter. I, however, shall not be taking it easy because this is the time of year when most of the maintenance work gets done. The two ivory and black cars are about to be treated to fresh antifreeze and a change of oil. There are no end of greasing points to be squirted with the grease gun and the back axle and gearbox will have the oil levels checked. There are several other little mechanical jobs to be attended to as well before I give the insides an early spring clean, focusing particularly on the seats and carpets. Those cars will be shining like new pins when the 2016 weddings start!

The blue car has been somewhat overlooked over the past year but I have decided to give it a new lease of life. I have already spent ages stripping the water pump down and stopping a nagging leak which has been irking me for a long time. The suspension has been de-greased, cleaned up and painted in shiny black. The doors used to rattle when the car went over bumps, but this has now been fixed. The exterior mirrors were in a terrible state; scratched, scruffy and painted matt black. So they have been replaced with brand new chromium plated mirrors which look great. I am now in the process of adjusting the windscreen so it opens properly and lets in a refreshing flow of air on hot days.

There is also a long list of other jobs to do which will keep me occupied throughout the winter. I am hoping to get it into tip top state by next Spring. The plan is to keep it blue for the time being, put some pictures on the website and see if anyone is interested in using it for their wedding. Watch this space!
