Tempus Fugit
Sunday 12th January 2014
I glanced at my diary the other day and was astounded to see the first wedding of 2014 is only eight weeks away. I try to avoid winter weddings as I don't want to risk causing damage to the vintage cars in the worst of the winter weather; so the first wedding usually signals the arrival of Spring. As much as I welcome the lengthening days and the warmer weather, I am now starting to feel mounting pressure to get the routine maintenance done on the cars, as well as carrying out the improvements I have been planning. Apart from the usual oil changing, brake checking, steering joint lubrication and carpet cleaning, I want to install indicators on the New Zealand car and stop lights on all three cars. I also have to stop the doors rattling on the blue car before getting it painted white. Eight weeks is probably plenty of time for a professional mechanic but I shall struggle to meet the deadline.
Actually, working on the cars is a labour of love and I tend to take far too long on each task; fussing and tinkering. Bob, my mechanic, is very patient but he must get fed up with my fretting over every little thing. I call him in for the tricky jobs and he rolls up his sleeves and gets things done. Perhaps I should call him in to help with my list of jobs, but that would spoil my fun so I'll keep Bob in reserve for the time being.
